As we age, the pressure we put on our bodies on a daily basis can lead to a range of medical problems and pain. The cervical spine is made up of seven bones separated by intervertebral discs that allow the spine to move freely. Due to the fact that this area sees the most movement, it is at higher risk of injury and developing a spinal condition. Herniated disc and degeneration occurs when a disc begins to protrude or change, resulting in pressure being put on a specific nerve root. Cervical spine stenosis is naturally occurring with age as the spine begins to degenerate. Bone spurs may for and press on the spinal cord and nerve roots, causing pain that spreads to your arms and legs. Other conditions include trauma, such as from an auto accident or a fall, vertebral tumors and other deformities. Treatment Options for Cervical Spine Conditions

It is best to consult a spine professional when you experience any pain in your back or neck. Since many of the symptoms of a cervical spine issue also include arm and leg pain, be sure to talk with your doctor frequently if these symptoms arise. There are a variety of treatments available if you suffer from one of these conditions, including cervical disc replacement and anterior cervical discectomy and fusion. Your spine expert will be able to talk you through any procedure so that you know what to expect all the way through your recovery. Minimally invasive spine surgery may also be an option depending on the severity of your condition. Consult your doctor to see the benefits of minimally invasive surgery and if you are a good candidate so that you can recover from your pain and feel great moving forward.

I was incapacitated, couldn’t stand, sit or walk. The pain was excruciating. I’ll spare you the diagnosis, but it was serious. I could only lie down with my foot up to reduce the pain. It required EMERGENCY surgery. …
