The Doctors – Correcting Flat Back Syndrome

Doctors told Beverly she needed to learn to live with the back pain she was experiencing following a serious car accident. Beverly decided to undergo a surgery, but it left her with flatback syndrome, forced to stand at a constant 45-degree angle, and still in severe pain. Finally, Dr. Hooman Melamed stepped in with a plan to correct her flatback condition and help restore her to a normal life. Her journey to see Dr. Melamed was featured on "The Doctors" TV show. The spine has natural, gentle curves throughout. Flatback syndrome is essentially a spine with little to no curvature throughout. Dr. Melamed points out that flatback surgery is a complex surgery that most spine surgeons do not perform. Thankfully for Beverly, Dr. Melamed is highly specialized in spine surgery and successfully operated to correct her back.
