Sports That Are Bad For The Spine
Dr. Hooman Melamed discusses which sports and activities to avoid to prevent back degeneration and injury. Dr. Melamed discusses the detrimental impact of certain sports on the spine, notably horseback riding and golf. Horseback riding creates repetitive jarring movements that are detrimental to the spine. This can cause degenerative disc disease and a host of other back problems as you age. In addition, golfing requires a lot of twisting movements with the spine, which is an unnatural motion that can damage discs over time as well. Furthermore, Dr. Melamed discourages the act of smoking, as it has been shown to kill cartilage cells, reduce blood supply to the discs, increase toxicity in the body, and accelerate degeneration of the spine.
