When I came to Dr. Melamed, he was able, he, he was able to immediately put me at ease and make me feel better about my situation, because he gave me hope. But he remains to be a humble doctor and not pay attention so much to the notoriety that he’s getting, but more passionate about the work that he’s doing and the patients that he’s helping, because I think he realizes he’s helping so many people.
I have two other friends that he has literally fixed surgeries that were botched by other doctors and changed these people’s lives. So I feel very, very blessed, not only that I met him and was able to get a new lease on life through this surgery, but that he gave me more time with my family. Not just time, but healthy time.
Before I came to Dr. Melamed, I had two back surgeries. I had gotten a staph infection on top of having [inaudible], and it literally turned two of my vertebrae to mush, which had to be removed. And the first surgeon put in [inaudible] connected to my, from my spine to my hip to hold it, to hold me together until I healed. Didn’t quite heal properly, and I was experiencing a lot of pain and constantly getting infections.
When I came to Dr. Melamed, you knew, and I could tell by the look in his eyes that he could fix or help what I was going through. So I decided to go ahead and go with it. We were going to go in and tighten a couple screws. He actually ended up taking out all the instrumentation, which was a complete relief to me, because the bone had grafted back enough. He knew what he was doing. I had complete faith in him. But I felt after that, just having that metal out of my body was, was good enough for me.
But I have felt so much better after the past few months. I haven’t been in 75 of the pain that I used to be in. I experienced very little times of pain from time to time, but nothing like that 24/7 pain that I was experiencing before.
The best thing and the most important advice I could probably give any other patient would be to follow up on Dr. Melamed’s instructions after surgery, because if you don’t do the physical therapy, if you don’t take his advice on what to do afterwards, you’ve got to work with him, it’s not going to work.
